In November, a research school tied to the URSA-MAJOR project will take place. URSA-MAJOR, which stands for "Urban Sustainability in Action: Multi-disciplinary Approach through Jointly Organised Research Schools," is a project that aims to integrate research advancements into a comprehensive educational program for future stakeholders of Smart Cities. The project focuses on regions experiencing amplified climate change, where urban areas urgently need to enhance their sustainability and resilience. It is funded by the Research Council of Norway and coordinated by the Nansen Center, with partners in Norway, Germany, the USA, and India. The research school is open to young scientists who are interested in urban societal, environmental, and computational sciences.
The school's theme is "Socio-Environmental Interactions in Sustainable Smart Cities." Those who wish to expand their knowledge can apply for this opportunity. The registration form and further information can be found at the following link: https://registration.tappin.no/register/um-school The research school will be conducted by researchers from the Nansen Center and partner institutions involved in the project. It will cater to 20 to 30 participants ranging from advanced BSc students to Postdocs. Successful applicants will receive research tasks online, followed by a few days of learning on Sommarøya near Tromsø in November. During this time, participants will delve into urban system research, high-resolution climate modeling, observations, and data analysis.
The objective is to familiarize young researchers with these tools to support sustainable development in smart cities. The research school will encompass both lectures and practical exercises conducted through group work. Upon completion, participants will receive ECTS credits as recognition for their achievements.
